A few days ago I received a comment from Gina on one of my posts saying that she read about my blog on a Facebook group dedicated to the DIEP flap reconstruction process. Upon reading this, I IMMEDIATELY looked for the page on Facebook and found it. And WHAT A GREAT RESOURCE! There are women in so many stages, some still doing research and others (like me) at the end of the journey. If you are looking for additional resources, support, a sisterhood of reconstructed boobs – join us!

You have to request to join the group and then be given permissions by an administrator, but I was in and scouring posts within an hour. This group is amazing and I’m so proud of us all taking care of and looking out for each other.
I’ve inserted a slideshow with all of my progress photos from pre-op through the present. I thought this would be a quick, helpful visual tool for everyone to see what’s in store, without having to read through everything I’ve written here (because it’s tedious to read an entire blog just for a peek).
So, if you’ve been following along, there’s nothing new in this slideshow. And if you’re squeamish (but reading this blog for some strange reason), don’t open the slideshow!
Hi. My doctor said they could do the removal of ovaries and Fallopian tubes with a scope so I am curious as to why you had to be cut open?
I haven’t had my hysterectomy yet. My scar is from my DIEP flap reconstruction. My reconstructive surgeon took fat from my stomach to do the tissue transfer for my “breasts”.
Thank you so much for making a video of your progress. I’m a surgical tech in Louisville, Kentucky and have been in several TRAM (Transverse Rectus Abdominus Mycutenous) Flap procedures. I have never seen the healing process or final outcome. You look great! Thanks sharing! Best wishes for you! 🙂
Your end result is amazing! To date, I haven’t chosen to reconstruct after my bilateral mastectomy, but I am much older than you (56). You have healed so well. I have never seen a better DIEP flap reconstruction outcome. I wish you the best of health and much happiness in the future. You have been through so much.
You are and amazing woman to have gone so much. Those scars are beautiful just like you….
Hi! Thanks so much for posting this. I have my DIEP on 1/5/15. I’m so nervous and I’ve watched this over and over to feel better. What areas did they Lipo after? Does your scar bug you when you wear jeans? What jean size did you start at and finish at?
I am having my surgery tomorrow morning and I am so grateful to read your blog. Thank you for all of this .
